What would the New River Valley look like if we were able to fully succeed in our vision of creating a community free of sexual and domestic violence? This idea that we could one day live in a community, and a world, where violence has been completely eradicated, sits at the very core of who the WRC is, and is the reason we will never stop creating or improving prevention programs that forward this mission.

Peaceline

For almost 20 years, the WRC’s Peaceline program has been an essential part of inciting safety in our community. The Peaceline Curriculum is presented by WRC staff in nearly all middle and high schools in the New River Valley, grades 6 – 10, and addresses violence, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and safety by building healthy relationships. This effective and evidence based prevention program has helped teach an entire generation to better understand what sexual and domestic violence is and what healthy relationships consist of. While we have research showing increases in knowledge and attitudes, we also see that Peaceline supports help seeking later in life.

Healthy Relationships Week

To underscore the message of Peaceline, the WRC facilitates Healthy Relationships Week in four area high schools. These events promote building relationships that include respect, equality, honesty, trust, and good communication.

WRC staff work closely with the individual schools, prevention partners, and community members to offer an assortment of engaging activities throughout the week. Daily activities provide educational opportunities emphasizing the importance of healthy relationships and safety. Plus, supportive community resources information is provided.

It is because of the support from our dedicated and compassionate community that Peaceline and Healthy Relationships Weeks continue to incite safety in the lives of our next generation.
