The Elder Justice Task Force of the New River Valley is a group made up of concerned professionals and community members dedicated to addressing the challenges and barriers that exist in later life. The mission of the task force is to increase awareness and improve community response to older adults experiencing domestic abuse and/or sexual violence. The group is facilitated by the Agency on Aging and the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley and is comprised of forensic nurses, adult service providers, social workers, law enforcement officers, experts in gerontology, attorneys, retired professionals, advocates and others. Projects that the Task Force is involved in include:

  • Professional development conferences and training
  • Developing trainings for professionals and awareness presentations for the public
  • Improving awareness of community resources among community professionals
  • Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of existing services
