| Wrapping up the fiscal year |
| On May 20, 2026, we had a wonderful turn out for our annual fundraiser at the Hahn Garden. Thank you to all who attended the evening filled with music, food, and opportunity to connect with one another. We raised almost $40,000 towards our goal for a violence-free community. We could not do this without your support, and on behalf of the WRC Board and Staff, we are appreciative and thank you for joining us in our mission. |
| Warmly, |
| Kyra Beeson Finance Director |

| Looking for ways to get involved? Consider joining the Elder Justice Task Force of the New River Valley! The EJTF of the NRV brings together professionals and community members dedicated to improving the lives and safety of older adults. Facilitated by the Agency on Aging and the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley, the task force works to raise awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence in later life while strengthening community response. Its efforts include professional training, public education, resource awareness, and evaluating services available to older adults. |

| Juneteenth |
|
|
|
| On Friday, we celebrate Juneteenth – a monumental day in history for Black Americans, marking the day that the last enslaved people, those in Galveston, TX, heard the news of their emancipation. While we celebrate the anniversary of Juneteenth, we also recognize that 161 years later, the African-American community still fights for the right to safety in all spheres, public and private. Black Americans were over six times more likely to be victims of homicide than their European-American peers in 2023. Black women, specifically, were more likely to experience domestic violence, and more likely to be killed as a result. |
| There is still work to be done to support the Black community, and at the WRC, we envision end to sexual and intimate partner violence for everyone. |

| Pride Month 2026 |
| This month, and every day, the WRC recognizes the struggles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. We honor the work done by the queer community in seeking justice for victims of partner and sexual violence. Pride Month is not only a time to celebrate, but also to reflect on how far we have come – from the 1966 National Transsexual Counseling Unit to the landmark 2013 amendment to VAWA promising equal protection for victims of violence regardless of gender or sexuality, LGBTQ+ advocates from within and allies from outside have always been a part of the fabric of antiviolence. |
| The WRC provides inclusive services that are informed and accessible to everyone, regardless of identity. This month especially, we hope you feel proud of who you are. You are welcome here – always. |
