I am ALIVE!

Robin Flahaut – Survivor

05-19-09

I am Robin Flahaut, a 48-year-old survivor of physical, verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse. I am “ALIVE!” Mother of one son, grandmother of two, one boy, one girl. I am Robin Flahaut, and I have been working on breaking the cycle of abuse in my family, and I have broken the cycle of violence! Here are just a few of my observations:

  • Living with a physically abusive person is like having a roommate that’s an inmate.
  • The abusive twisted words used on me are like poison ivy in my soul.
  • If you were to cut me open and look inside my body, it would be as though “ALL” the abusive words are written on little strips of paper and they are intertwined and woven inside my brain, heart, stomach, liver, etc.
  • Breaking FREE of an abusive relationship is like a baby bird leaving the nest for the final time!
  • The lies that were said are in my mind playing over and over again.

Who? Who will stand up and SPEAK for ALL of those who have NO VOICE? Who? I WILL! LET IT BE ME!

A Letter to Myself

Dear Robin,

Thank you for working so very hard to heal yourself! For trying to make sense of what happened to you even though it is difficult. And for trying to let go and not own what was done to you because it wasn’t your fault! Thank you for not hating and for being LOVING and KIND! And also for not giving UP on yourself!

I LOVE YOU!

Robin :-)
