Volunteers assist WRC staff members in providing shelter services and maintaining our Crisis Hotline. Volunteers also serve in special areas of interest such as working with children, providing Emergency Advocacy services, working as Advanced Volunteers, and providing special one-time projects such as decorating a transitional housing apartment unit or organizing holiday parties.
Highlighted below are volunteer opportunities consistently provided by the Women’s Resource Center.
Crisis Intervention Volunteers respond to the 24-hour Crisis Hotline, assist with the day-to-day support services within the shelter and protect the confidentiality and security of our clients.
Emergency Advocates are on call 24 hours a day and are available to meet those experiencing a domestic and/or sexual violence crisis at the hospital or law enforcement agency.
Children’s Program Volunteers work directly with children providing child care, tutoring, after-school programs, story hours, crafts, games and enrichment activities.
Training Component: Volunteer training is offered 4 to 5 times a year. This extensive, interactive pre-service instruction provides trainees with a wide variety of learning experiences revolving around family and sexual violence, crisis intervention and helping skills.
