WRC to host 2nd annual fundraising concert featuring saffire - uppity blues women

 

RADFORD, Va., April 20, 2009 – The Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley is holding its 2nd Annual Fundraising Concert on Friday, May 29, at The Event Centre in Christiansburg. The concert will feature Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women, the all women bluesy band that is on its farewell tour. 

“We are so excited to be one of the last venues for a trio of women who have long used music to talk about women’s issues,” said Pat Brown, executive director of the Women’s Resource Center. “We hope the New River Valley community comes out to enjoy an evening of music and fun.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7:30. Two 45-minute sets will feature the edgy, acoustic music of the trio. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the WRC in person, by phone – (540) 639-9592, or online.

The Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley, a non-profit, human service organization, served a historic number of domestic and/or sexual violence victims in has been providing hope and help to victims of domestic and 2008 – 4,226, a 27 percent increase in overall numbers of victims requesting services. The Women’s Resource Center, the oldest domestic violence shelter in Virginia, provides programs and services to both children and adults in Radford and Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski counties and New River Valley Community College, Radford University and Virginia Tech campuses to create a community free of domestic violence and sexual assault through services, support and education.
